Words, Words, Words.

Content Marketing - Using WordsWords, Words, Words

Your Best Content Marketing Tool

What is a Shakespeare play made of?

Hamlet gives us the answer – When Polonius asks Hamlet what he is reading Hamlet answers “Words, words, words.”. A Shakespeare play is made of words. Much of our content will also be made of words. We may lace in a graphic or a photo or even a video but much of what we create will be content composed of words.

Words work! Words work well! Words have worked well for centuries. Can we be inspired by Shakespeare to elevate our wording when we create our content?

If you use photos to convey your message then enhance the photo for your human audience and the search engines by adding in some well-crafted words. Let your audience enjoy your words and this will help them to appreciate your photo even more.

If you create audio files to enhance the experience of your online visitors then work and rework the wording to create the best audio file you can. Craft your words so that you have the best content when compared to all of your competitors. Use written words to introduce the audio and compel your audience to listen.

I recommend also using a top level copywriter to assist you in your efforts. A copywriter can help you to elevate your content above that of your competitors – a key goal! The objective is to out-perform your competition in two distinct areas:

  1. The quantity of your delightful content and
  2. The quality

If you do this then the search engines, who exist only to discover and organize content, will be your ally in your great effort for online exposure. As sophisticated as the modern search engines are today they are still significantly word based. A modern search engine cannot “see” your photo or your graphic. A search engine cannot “listen” to your audio or “understand” the content of your video. They depend on the words and the relationship of the words surrounding your photo, audio or video content to gain insights into the meaning of your photo, audio or video.

Shakespeare has provided us with some of the best-crafted wording the English language has ever seen.

Words are one of your most important content marketing tools.

To inspire you into using words in the best possible and delightful way to enhance and support your content marketing efforts here are some of my favorite Shakespeare speeches. I start with Hamlet as his simple statement of Words, words, words inspired me to write this post.

Hamlet: To be or not to be . . .

To be, or not to be: that is the question:

Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,

And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

No more; and by a sleep to say we end

The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks

That flesh is heir to, ’tis a consummation

Devoutly to be wish’d. . . .

Henry V: We few, we happy few, . . .

. . .We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;

For he to-day that sheds his blood with me

Shall be my brother; . . .

Marc Antony: Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; . . .

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;

I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.

The evil that men do lives after them;

The good is oft interred with their bones;

So let it be with Caesar.

Juliet: O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?

. . .What’s in a name? that which we call a rose

By any other name would smell as sweet;

So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call’d,

Retain that dear perfection which he owes

Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,

And for that name which is no part of thee

Take all myself.

If you are a painter then your content is made of paint. If you are a sculptor then you content is made of stone. If you are a videographer then your canvas is a set of moving images. All of these media can be further enhanced by adding in words. Sometimes it is even necessary for your audience to fully comprehend and appreciate the meaning of your efforts.

Using words in a clever and delightful manner will enhance all that you do when it comes to your content marketing efforts.
